Whew! Can You Believe I Finished?!

I finished my first triathlon this morning!  I can’t believe it is over.  After a restless night (4 hours sleep…did I seriously think I would get any more than that?) But somehow, with my stomach in a knot, I still had more than enough energy to get going.  Did I mention….. WAHOO!!!  I FINISHED!!

Not without some bumps along the way.

Can you see what is wrong with this picture?

Yep, that would be a flat front tire.  (Thankfully it happened in the last 1/4 mile)

That would be after my chain slipping off 3/4 of the way up the last hill.  (I jumped off, ran the bike the rest of the way up the hill, and popped my chain back on…aren’t I handy under pressure?)

Oh yeah, and both of these happened after I dropped my water bottle on the street at about mile 5.  Not only my water bottle, but the entire water bottle holder.  Seems like my little old bike is starting to rebel against the miles I’ve put on it the last month!

Dan left Connor’s soccer game early to come and take pics.  He made it in time to see the bike to swim transition.

I have to say there was something satisfying passing up all the men in the pool.  Especially all the ones who were wearing the fancy-shmancy tri-outfits.  Oh, and seeing from the pictures that my swimming form isn’t completely pathetic.

I think my boys were more excited about the treats at the end than my actually finishing.

With my cousin/fitness buddy Amy.  She totally rocks!!  Way to keep me motivated!  This was totally her idea last year, and I’m glad she pushed me.  Although I think she created a monster. 1 down 2 more to go!

Part of the body marking was putting your age on your calf.  Look at those mommies!  (Her baby just turned 1.  I could only dream about getting in shape that fast!)

Final Stats:

3 Mile Run 00:30:33
1st Transition 00:01:07
10 mile Bike 00:39:38
2nd Transition 00:01:58
350 Meter Swim 00:11:13
Final Time 01:24:31

Pros:  Beat my goal by 5 minutes 30 seconds.  (I can’t wait to see how I do without the bike problems)

Cons:  I’m super bummed that I had to walk the bike up last part of the hill.  One of my goals was to bike the whole thing.  I guess logistics has to take over sometimes.

Needs Improvement:  I hope to work out the transitions a little better.  I could have shaved at least 30 seconds off each of them.

5 weeks until the Women of Steel!  Can’t wait to do a traditional Tri.  Hope the bike to run doesn’t totally kick my butt!!
