RiGiT RuN 2012

Last Saturday we did a race our friends hosted back in Orem.  What got us excited was the cause the race.  It was raising awareness of the disease Androgenic Alopecia (Male pattern baldness).  How could we not participate?  Dan has been suffering in silence from this disease for most of our marriage! Tiff, Mark, Charlie, and Heather all came to support Daniel.

It was a 5k/2.5k race around the old neighborhood.  I walked the 2.5k with all the boys and Dan ran the 5k as a warm-up for the 13 mile run he needed to do that day.  (Did I mention he is running a 1/2 marathon this weekend?).  Dan actually came in 3rd place!

I accepted the medal in his behalf since he was already running home.  I was proud my husband kept up with the teenagers!

It was a great race and we can’t wait until next year!  Thanks Drew and Natalie!

New Arrival

I’ve been bad.  I have some Grandmas that are upset that we haven’t posted pictures of the baby.  So here they are.

Zander Afton Thomas

8 lbs. 8 oz.  19.5 in.

My chubbiest by 2lbs!!! He really changed even before we left the hospital.

Also check out the pointy head.  Can you believe c-section?  Oh wait, that’s what happens when they are breech and wedged under your ribs for the last trimester.

We came home Friday and went to the family campout Saturday.  He slept most of the day.

We had a hard time getting pics of Zander.  He either looked like he was dead, or had a pacifier in his mouth.  (However, I’m grateful to have a baby that sleeps great and takes a bink!)

A little explanation on the name.  We have always liked the name Xander, but decided we didn’t want the name Alexander (We already have a Lex in the family!) So we decided we could just go with the name we wanted.  We changed the X to a Z since it wouldn’t be a nickname. 

We had settled on the middle name Afton a couple months ago.  It is a family name on my Harward side.  (There was some confusion on whether or not it was actually my grandfather’s middle name, but it gave us a chance to clear up some family history.)

We added the 2nd middle name of Thomas the night before my c-section.  It is a family name on my Hawkins side.  (It is my Grandpa’s middle name.  We also discovered that it is the name of my grandfather Harward who came over with the pioneers and settled in Utah.  So a family name on both sides.)  An easy explanation for the T?  We didn’t want his initials to be ZAP!

So far we are adapting well to the baby.  A little rocky for the last 2 weeks of summer break (okay, honestly the hardest 2 weeks of motherhood for me!).  But the older 2 are in school and life has finally started to get into a rhythm.  The boys adore him, and do rather well at taking care of him.  I love having helpers!
