I Could Be in Trouble

Garrick has discovered that he can fit inside my kitchen cabinets.  So while I’m making dinner he is playing hide-and-seek with me.

 

As if I don’t have enough places in the house to lose him.  I have to remember to look here first.

Red is Always Better

Growing up in Alicia’s family, we had a running joke about whether or not the next child would come out as a red head. (Red hair is VERY prominent on both sides) Well, here are Alicia’s newest babies:

Aren’t they beautiful!! I was so excited to get the red ones. Bonus feature: They sing to me when they are done. I feel like I’m on a spaceship using all the buttons and knobs! Oh, and I can shove ALL the boys clothes in at one time. Awesome!

We’re Moved In!!

Tonight we hit a big milestone.  Alicia unpacked her last box, and Dan finally finished installing the toilet in the master bathroom.  I now consider us “settled”.

For those that don’t know, we finally moved our furniture to the new house on Saturday.  (A HUGE THANKS to all who came and helped!) It went great, and we were able to be pretty much set by the first night.

The kids  were so excited. 

The boys are obsessed with their own bathtub.

We had the boy’s set up and made before they got to the house.  They were glad to see their new room.

This is the room I am most excited about.  I finally have a room I can curl up and read without being bothered!

Tonight we are finished with the master bath (other than decorative touches).  We pulled the toilet out of the bathtub last night, and Alicia was able to enjoy her first bath in the jetted tub…yippee!

This room was the biggest hassle.  White walls, white carpet….gag!!

We ripped out the carpet and tried to stain the cabinets.  Then decided to paint the cabinets and do “fancy” tiling on the floor….thanks Alan & Jacqui for the inspiration! 

It’s not perfect, but I think Dan did an awesome job putting it together.  Only thing left is for Alicia to pick out some hardware for the cabinets.  I love it!!!

Next step, try to put my storage room into some semblance of order.  Thanks again for everyone that helped move all that food!!

FYI

There is no such thing as a "quick" coat of paint. Just thought you should know.

After a few minor delays things have finally reached a point where moving is in sight. Carpet and vinyl are being laid Wednesday morning, my new washer and dryer are being delivered that afternoon, (did I mention they are red?), and Dan is sealing the tile that night. I can't believe it!! We are scheduled to move Saturday morning at 8am. (Then I spend the day cleaning our Orem house as my sister moves into it-ACK!!)

I think I am going to sleep all of next week. Wake me up in time for the turkey!

The Deed is Done

Last Monday we closed on our new house in PG.  Then I have spent the last week cleaning, and moving stuff.  I have hit the point that I feel like we will never get moved in.  Why do home improvement projects always take more time than anticipated?

The plan this week is to tear out carpet in bedrooms, finish staining the vanity in the bathroom, and start tiling the bathroom floor.  Oh, and throw on a quick coat of paint in a couple of bedrooms.  We’ll see how much actually happens. 

We are forwarding our home number to my cell, so give a call if you are in the area and want to stop by.  Hopefully I will get better about answering it.

We still have no definite date for finishing the move.  We have made progress with just taking things as we go.  If everything goes as planned we should be in the weekend before Thanksgiving.  ACK!!!

Random Food Post

So just a couple of things I tried in the last month. 

I was feeling guilty over all the Jalapeños I was throwing away, so finally I decided to try something to put them to use.  I made bacon wrapped Jalapeño Poppers one night for dinner.  It actually turned out better than I thought.  A definite do again.

I made them with Turkey bacon, for a little bit healthier option.  The boys actually ate a couple of them, which surprised me.  Can’t wait to try them again next year!

This past weekend we had our traditional Halloween Chili.  This year I made biscuit bowls for the boys to use for their chili.  It was a good change.

Way easy to make.  You simply roll out refrigerator biscuits and wrap them around the bottoms of individual muffins on an upside down muffin tin.  I used jumbo biscuits to make it easier to spread out.  A cheaper way for bread bowls.  Also, the perfect size for kids.

Halloween 2010

Okay, so a wet, wet, wet Halloween, but I did manage to get some pictures of the kids, so I call it a success.

We pulled out the Superman costume for Garrick (and then had to dry it 2 times)

Alicia as a pirate, and Dan got a mad scientist costume this year.  Maybe one year we will actually try to match as a family!

Jack-O-Lantern Fun

I don’t know about anyone else, but we had a pathetic pumpkin crop this year.  We grew 1 decent sized pumpkin, and then got an itty bitty green one.  I don’t know whether to blame it on the crazy spring weather, or the way I organized my garden this year.  It was a good thing my boys each had field trips to pumpkinland, or something similar.  They were more than excited to pick out their own pumpkin.

Dan decided to carve with the boys on Wednesday.  (Alicia gratefully bowed out to go to her last pack meeting…sniff, sniff.)  My boys love this kind of stuff.  At least for about 10 minutes, and then they are ready to move on to something else.

Haden carved Garrick’s, since his fieldtrip had been postponed.

Connor designed his own pumpkin this year.  He has been drawing options for about a week, and then settled on this one.

They looked pretty cool all lit up.

On Friday after school, we went to the Conservancy Gardens for their annual Pumpkin Walk.  It was neat to see all the Jack-O-Lanterns.

The boys loved trying to find the “coolest” one.

People are so much more creative than I am.

These were my favorite.  Mr. Potato Head parts at good use!

Now if I could only have all of my boys look at the camera at the same time!!  Oh well, I still love them.

After the Pumpkin Walk, Aunt Heather came down to watch the boys for the evening.  She was nice enough to help Haden carve his pumpkin.  They did a great job.  (Until it came time to take the picture.)  Looks like it could have been on the pumpkin walk! 

There we go, done with pumpkins for a year.  Hopefully next year we will be able to get a few more grown!

Just a thought…

Identity theft SUCKS!!!  Especially at this time.  Just thought I would share.  Hope your week is going better than mine.

Pre-Halloween Fun

So I think I mentioned this last year, but it bears repeating….When did Halloween become a 4 day event?  There were parties this entire last week.  I feel my kids definitely got their fill of wearing their costumes. 

It started out with Connor’s 1st grade program Monday.  They sang songs and recited poems.  Perfectly timed.  We were done in 30 minutes!

Both sets of grandparents came, which totally made his day.  Aunt Krystal made him a little sucker bouquet, way cute!  He was pretty proud of himself (now if he could learn to stand, sing, and do actions at the same time…definitely not a multi-tasker)

On Friday, I went to Connor’s school to help with the party and watch the parade.  Haden was so excited to get to come.

Yep, Haden did like his costume.  He just didn’t like the hood very much.  But too adorable!!

After the parties at school we headed off to Dan’s work for their family trick-or-treat.

Garrick threw a classic fit in the middle of the hall.  But overall loved the whole thing. (still trying to catch on to the candy thing)

Aunt Heather was more “responsible” this year, and did not give them a whole bag of candy….EACH.  Their mother thanks her profusely.
