Bonneville 3K Fun Run

Connor’s school did a fun run fundraiser this morning.  Connor and I decided the last minute to actually run the course.  It was a blast!!  Connor ran all but about 2 blocks of the 3k and we finished in about 21 minutes.  Not bad for a 6 year old.  In fact, he was passing up a lot of 5th & 6th graders! 

After the race they had a safety fair, which was a madhouse, but great for the kids to see the police, firefighters, and EMT’s.  Not to mention all their vehicles.  The police were great about talking to the kids and letting them crawl around the equipment.

The biggest surprise was when Connor won the Tony Hawk stunt bike from the drawing.  His teacher called home to give us a head’s up, since Connor was so excited he didn’t know what to do.  It was absolutely adorable.

He was so excited he couldn’t wait to try it out. 

Wow, he is on to hand brakes.  I can’t believe how fast he has grown.  Although, that bike makes him look small!!  Congrats Connor!  You did great today!

Working Through the Garden

In the midst of the crazy month I’ve been trying to get all of the stuff out of our garden.  We have done really well with salsa and tomatoes.  I was able to get 3 batches of salsa this year which, should last till next year! 

 

I branched out this year in finally trying to do something with the 3 Asian Pear trees in the yard.  I have done 3 batches of bottled pears, and tried to make fruit leather with it.  I’m not sure the recipe I used was really meant for pears.

It looks funny, but tastes great.  Connor loves it, which may have something to do with the fact that there is no skin on it.  I inadvertently discovered making pear “applesauce”.  So we will probably have that with all of the pears have left.  Thank goodness I have an awesome husband willing to peel for me!

Soccer Crazy

September meant the start of soccer.  Connor loved doing the soccer camp this past summer and was excited to get going with actual games.  So our life consists of soccer 3 nights a week, swimming 3 others, and then Sunday to rest.  I can’t wait until this month is over.

Connor has a very young team, which means very few wins, but they have a lot of fun chasing after the ball.

Although they all seem to get distracted easily.  Oh well, learning teamwork is the most important.  It has been a fun seeing him enjoy himself.

Preschool Again

Haden started preschool this last week.  Halle-freakin-luiah!  We literally had tears the first two weeks of Connor going to school.  Haden wanted to go so badly, he couldn’t stand it.  So now I have 3 mornings a week with just me and Garrick.  Glorious!!

Taking pictures of Haden is either a hoot or a horrifying experience.  Thankfully that morning was fun.

This is the blank look that Haden has started pulling out when I want to get a picture.  He is just humoring his mother.

Much better.  So stinkin’ cute…in my humble opinion.  Wahoo for school!  This year has already started out better than last year.

Labor Day

Our last campout of the summer was over Labor Day.  We didn’t get out nearly as much as I had hoped this year, but next year we will try to be better.  We had planned on going since July, and then my parents and their friends ended up choosing to go the same weekend, to the same campground.  So we had a group of 4 families between our 2 sites.  It was busy and fun.

We love the Whiting Campground up Mapleton Canyon.  It is quiet, and has tons of shade all day, which is great when you have a late scorcher for the weather.  The boys were excited to pull out their marshmallow guns.  They had fun interchanging the parts, to make new guns.

Do you think my son has watched to many movies?  I love how he is casually staring you down.

We went down to the group site for a friendly game of horseshoes.  Let’s just say there was no competition.  Alicia can’t throw straight anymore.

Thankfully Connor and Haden made a lot of “new” friends.  Okay, they just rediscovered old friends.  They were all great about letting my boys join up for hikes and exploring.

The adults participated in the Rummikub tournament.  I’m proud to say I made it past the 1st round at least.  Oh, and that was better than Dan did.  He ended up in the losers bracket, and then ended up losing that game when a person went completely out in 1 turn.  Hehehe. 

A great way to end the summer.  Now the trailer is cleaned and packed up.  We are ready for next spring!
