The Avatar Rules…

Just want to share a snippet of Valentines’ Day for us.

Backstory first:  With Connor being so sick the last week or so, we started an Avatar: The Last Airbender marathon, to help make it through.  (LOVE!).

We finished the series on Monday.  This was the conversation at our Valentine’s “Date” (okay, staying home watching The Big Bang Theory – a new love of my life – and munching on treats.)

Dan:  When I create my worlds I’m totally going to have bending.  And then the Avatar will be the prophet.
Alicia: But no firebending right?
Dan: What?  You have to have firebending, otherwise you would be missing an element…..pause…….just not the cheesy M. Night Shyamalan firebending.
Alicia:  Good to know what kind of worlds we’ll be creating.
pause…..crickets chirping
Dan:  Oh Yeah!!  You’ll be there too!
Alicia: *snort*

Should I be insulted?  After all he did call me evil when he saw the dessert I made.  Let’s just say one slice of brownie was more calories than our dinner.  Here’s the recipe:

Luscious Heavenly Chocolate Bars

  • 1 pouch chocolate chip cookie mix (or your favorite chocolate chip cookie dough)
  • 1 bag oreo cookies
  • 1 brownie mix (from a box, or homemade)

Mix cookie mix according to directions and spread on the bottom of greased 9 x 13 pan. Press a layer of oreos over the cookie dough.  Mix brownie mix according to directions and pour over the oreos.  Bake for 30 minutes.

Did not go well with Dan’s calorie counting, but I loved every bite!!  What a memorable day!

Still Waiting to Pass Judgment on February

Okay, I am having more moments of motivation.  However, the sickness is still there, and I’m waiting for the day when I don’t have to run to the bathroom to lose whatever is in my stomach.  Dan says that statistically my chances for a girl are increasing every day….totally not getting my hopes up for that.  Or as my friend said, she is already causing you grief!

Biggest problem right now:  Connor hasn’t eaten since Saturday.  At least nothing substantial.  He woke up Friday with a sore neck and hurting ear, but no fever.  He was worse by the end of the day.  We took him in to urgent care Saturday, and a big fat NO to the strep test.  Unfortunately he was fighting a 102 temperature WHILE ON IBPROUFEN for the rest of the weekend and can’t swallow anything.

So Tuesday we went to the doctor again.  They have no idea what is going on, so they prescribed a broadbased antibiotic in hopes that it would hit whatever was going on.  (My confidence in the medical profession is getting a big fat….hmmmmm. really?)  He has been on the RX for 2 days now.  Up side, his temperature is now sitting at 99 sometimes down to normal while on IB.  Downside, he still can’t eat and I’m in tears by the end trying to shove ANYTHING healthy into his little body.  Then when we get something substantial in him (mashed potato, soup) he struggles with wanting to throw up.

I consider it a big breakthrough I was able to get him to eat 1/2 container of yogurt I had frozen last night.  Is it safe for your child to live on popsicles and juice for a week?  Between the 2 Dr. appointments he had lost 5 pounds.  I’m scared to weigh him now.  Cross your fingers that the throat gets better by this weekend so I can fatten him up!

On the funny side, I had a little bit of asparagus left over from Sunday dinner for Dan and I to have with dinner last night.  You would have thought we were depriving my children of the greatest treat ever invented.  Garrick’s words (literally):

G: I want that.
D: Nope that’s for Mom and Dad.
G: That’s not fair!
M: Boy he is starting that one early.

Here’s to a better weekend.
