On Friday we attended the BYU CS department’s Alumni Family Picnic. Usually I can’t stand these things (Crowds, chatting with people I don’t know, complete boredom) however this was one I was actually looking forward too. Since it was a family thing, I really wasn’t obligated to make small talk with people I don’t know. If I got bored I could simply go and chase the boys around.
Funny thing though. I didn’t get bored. First off, it was a great BBQ dinner catered by BYU, of course. They had amazing selection of frozen desserts and cookies which meant plenty to bribe the kids with. Second thing, I actually knew a bunch of people. I guess it takes 10 years of marriage, but we had friends and neighbors, high school friends, and work associates to hang out with during the party. It was a lot of fun and amazing to see how small the BYU CS world really is.
The real hit of the party was all the little games they set up for the kids. Totally cheesy carnival games that my kids ate up. But the big hit was the water bottle launchers that Connor discovered. He did an awesome job putting together a rocket and blasting it off and of course Haden had to join in the fun as well.
Can’t wait for the party next year!
