Man, my blogging skills are definitely slack this year. So bear with the next few posts as I try to get a grasp on everything that we did in August and September. (It’s a good thing I did take the time to organize and edit pictures up through September, so I at least have something to follow!)
I’m going to start with the random things.
At the beginning of August, Aunt Heather was nice enough to take the boys to her work’s department party. The took the chance to go check out the “UP House” near her home.
Up is one of the boy’s favorite movies.
The party was at a park with water toys for the kids to play with. Garrick absolutely loved it! Haden’s idea of fun is: get a little wet, and then lay out on a warm towel to get dry.
They got tired out after the party. This is what happens when you fall asleep with a ring pop in your mouth. Oh, that, and your baby brother snitches it out of your hand and eats the rest himself!
The big house project for September was clearing out the “no-man’s land” between our home and the field behind us. It was overtaken with weeds and garbage elm trees. We decided to try and clean it up before they started obstructing our view.
It was a lot of work and took most of the month to finally get it done. We chipped up all the wood this last week and got the mulch into our garden. Whew, now just need to keep up with it.
September means canning season. I LOVE my new kitchen for canning. It was much nicer for spreading things out. I don’t remember everything that I canned, but mostly peaches, pears, pickles, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, jam, and then froze salsa, corn, beans, peppers, and zucchini. My apples have come on this last week, which means I’m going to try applesauce this next week.
Dan was great about helping with the canning this year. Especially the pickles. For some reason, Alicia was a little freaked out about cutting cucumbers this year 
The boys were really excited about our Beefsteak tomatoes. Having them work in the garden has really made it easier to get them to eat their veggies. Connor absolutely LOVES zucchini, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, and tomatoes. Oh, and the surprise big hit was the jalapeno poppers I have been making to use up all the peppers.
Haden is not so impressed, but he eats everything because Connor thinks it is great. That’s what I love…positive peer pressure. They are begging for me to make something with the butternut squash we picked this week. If anyone has a good recipe, let me know!
