This past weekend is always a big deal with family. With birthdays, holidays, and conference we have 3 days of intense family togetherness.
It started Friday when the Preece women decided to take off on a Girl’s night since the men do it after Priesthood on Saturday. So with babysitters taken care of (okay, pet peeve, when a husband is alone with the kids it should NOT be called babysitting…off my soapbox now) we took off to dinner and then to see the movie “The Young Victoria”. I hadn’t heard much about the movie, but I really loved it. Though I have to admit I am a sucker for period pieces and especially with the British monarchy. It is just fascinating. I am considering buying it when it comes out. A good, clean, feel good movie. Sorry, no pictures. Forgot my camera. When Rita finally posts her pictures I will put a link up….if I remember.
On Saturday, rather than being alone with the kids during Priesthood, I invited my sisters over for a Girl’s night. After dinner we came back to the house and attempted to make cinnamon rolls. The very first time with Alicia. What an adventure.
The recipe was one I got awhile back and looked really easy. No rising and punching. Yep it was easy, until we finished mixing it. This is what the kneading looked like:
Have you ever tried to knead slime? The recipe said to do it on a lightly floured board. Yep our lightly floured ended up being at least another 2 cups or more. After a lot of trial and error, we got a ball of dough and then rolled it out.
Heather’s batch looks much better than mine. My excuse: I had the experimental batch. The boys had fun trying to “help” us.
They looked great once they started cooking. In fact, we were a little afraid of them rising too much.
A big hit with the boys though. In their words: “I wish I could have some of that yummy treats that I’ve never had before.”
It was a blast hanging out with 2 of my sisters---Missed you Tiff! They were great with my boys, which I needed during the crisis of the cinnamon rolls.
Next time we will just do fondue or something like that!
I second the "babysitting" blurb! I want to come to your next girl's night! I remember the good old days when I would come down and and we would have sleep overs... I seem to remember that occasionally happening over Conference weekend. Good times, good times. :)
